Alcoa Foundation’s second Advancing Sustainability Conference in Barcelona, Spain on October 10-14, 2008 was a resounding success, bringing together 162 stakeholders in Alcoa Foundation’s Conservation and Sustainability Fellowship Program.  The theme of this year’s conference was “Connecting Partnerships and Networks for Sustainable Solutions.”  In this spirit, Academic Partners, Sustainability Institutes, and fellows from Alcoa Foundation’s signature fellowship program met with worldwide leaders on conservation and sustainability, Alcoa Foundation-funded non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from around the globe, government and United Nations representatives, and Alcoa’s top executives to discuss one of today’s most pressing issues: environmental sustainability.  

These discussions will be used to inform an even more successful design for the future of Alcoa Foundation’s Conservation and Sustainability Fellowship Program.  At the conference, Alcoa President and CEO Klaus Kleinfeld announced a six-year extension of the program.
